Using Outcomes of Functional Assessment to Inform Intervention for Disruptive Behavior

Assessments and reassessments play a crucial role in ABA therapy to determine the patient’s strengths, weaknesses, and unique needs of each client in order to develop individualized interventions. This symposium will explore three studies with different scenarios that shine a light on the impact of interventions based on the outcomes of functional assessments. This talk will also feature a virtual training to show ABA Case Managers effective strategies to implement functional assessment interviews for runaways to empower them to move beyond suppressing behaviors and start addressing the root of it faced by the youth in child welfare.
Ethics and Use of Assessment Instruments by Behavior Analysts

Administering and interpreting standardized assessment instruments in behavioral therapy is fundamental to ensure the maximization of benefits and minimize the risk of harm to the client and stakeholders as dictated by the BACB®’s Ethics Code. However, there has been a growing concern regarding the capability of BACB-credentialed professionals to use standardized instruments to execute plans and measure their clients’ progress. This session will share insights into whether behavior analysts should play a role in conducting assessments and a list of standard assessment instruments that facilitate the role of analysts within clinical practices.
